A Prince George forest products company has been recognized for its commitment
to efficiency by receiving ISO 9001 certification.
Brink Forest Products Ltd., a secondary manufacturer, received written confirmation
Friday after passing a registration audit Nov. 30, the company announced today.
Company president John Brink says he is proud of his companys achievement,
among the first in the B.C. value-added forest sector to achieve ISO 9001 certification.
"Our customers, wherever they are in the world, now have independent
third-party assurance that our products are consistently of high standard,"
Brink states in a news release. "Achieving certification is a credit to
the excellent work of a dedicated group of employees."
Brink notes that none of the primary manufacturers in the region have achieved
similar certification.
Primary manufacturers such as Canfor produce lumber. Secondary, or value-added,
companies make more finished wood products for use in construction and home-building.
Earlier this year, Brink Forest Products celebrated 25-years as a major secondary
forest products manufacturer in Prince George.
ISO 9000 is an internationally recognized quality management program and a
widely accepted benchmark of an organizations commitment to ensuring consistent
quality in its products and services. Improvements include reduced operating
costs, increased sales, better employee morale and initiative, and increased
competitiveness, particularly for companies selling internationally or bidding
on international contracts. Many major companies selling on the world market
now require their suppliers to be ISO-certified to satisfy demands of international
customers.
As the largest provider of ISO consulting services in Western Canada, the BDC
Consulting Group was retained by Brink as a consultant through the 11- month
ISO implementation process.
"While BC has been slower than other parts of Canada to recognize the
benefits of ISO, the demand for certification from the global marketplace is
increasingly becoming a requirement for doing business," says BDC manager
Renata King. "British Columbian businesses, particularly in the forestry
sector, are competing on a world stage, where quality - in management,
products, services and environmental stewardship - is rapidly becoming
a prerequisite.
"Achieving ISO certification is no small task, so we congratulate John
and his team for their vision and commitment to making Brink Forest Products
a leader in their industry."
