Three Prince George residents and another half dozen people from northern B.C. were named Tuesday as recipients in the third annual B.C. community achievement awards.
They were among 44 British Columbians recognized with the awards. John Brink was cited as a leader in the economic development of Prince George, and for playing an integral role in regional workforce education through his support of post-secondary wood technology and training.
Brink, owner and president of Brink Forest Products Ltd., was also cited for his support of the arts, sports and service organizations in the region.
Tom and Jean Leboe were cited as foster parents for the past 20 years, during which time they fostered 58 children, most with special needs. They were also cited for their participation in Rotary, the Parkside Senior Care Centre, the safe babies program, the Prince George Chamber of Commerce and various levels of foster parent associations.
Noreen Rustad was cited for her work as a founding member of the Prince George Community Foundation. Rustad was also cited as one of the original supporters of the University of Northern B.C., where she continues to sit on the board of governors. She was also cited for her volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, the Festival of the Arts and the Prince George Weavers’ and Spinners’ Guild.
Other northerners recognized were Alvina Berggren of Fort Nelson, Marce Fofonoff of Chetwynd, John Ryan of Terrace, Jim Terrion Jr. of Prince Rupert and Edmond Wright of New Aiyansh.
